WUSA9, the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in Washington DC, is currently seeking a talented leader and problem solver to join our exceptional Technology team. The role requires both live directing and technical troubleshooting skills. The ideal candidate has a thorough understanding of broadcast-centric technologies and operational models. Along with directing the position will support broadcast software and hardware as well as traditional desktop services.

Directing Responsibilities Include

  • Direct live newscasts, recorded productions, live streams, cut-ins, and commercial projects
  • Determine camera angles, lighting, and set arrangement
  • Ensure effective interaction between the control room and multiple departments across the organization
  • Other duties to include: Camera Robotics, Audio, Live Shot Acquisition, and Media Ingest

Broadcast Support Responsibilities Include

  • Provide technical support to other teams within Technology and Operations at WUSA
  • Develop new workflows designed to improve quality and reduce discrepancies
  • Design and implement permanent technical solutions
  • Partner with Studio Operations and Field Operations groups to maintain systems and complete technology projects
  • Seek opportunities to increase newsgathering efficiency by implementation of smart technology
  • Must possess strong multitasking skills
  • Make new technology recommendations, identify best practices, and establish high operating standards
  • Support day to day operations of broadcast information technology systems, software, and equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair computer hardware, software, and peripherals
  • Provide support for disaster recovery systems

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates will have proficient skills with the following equipment and systems:
  • Control Room automation such as Sony ELC, Ross Overdrive, Grass Valley Ignite
  • Video Switcher
  • Audio mixer
  • Studio lighting
  • Teleprompter
  • Robotic studio cameras
  • Current Computer Hardware and Productivity Applications
  • Knowledge of Miranda Vertigo a plus
  • Non-Linear editing skills a plus
  • Experience with ENPS and Bit Central server systems also a plus

Requirements Of The Position Include

  • Proactive self-learning
  • Effective leadership and communication during a crisis
  • Five (5) years’ experience in various aspects of television production preferred
  • A minimum of three (3) years directing experience
  • Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on working as a team with producers
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Personal integrity, accountability, problem solving, a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working on ladders and lifts
