Overview:

CFR.org is the Council on Foreign Relations’s award-winning website that is a leading source of information and analysis on global developments and foreign policy options. It publishes a mix of resources, including interactive InfoGuides, Daily News briefs, podcasts, data visualization, and backgrounders. CFR.org collaborates closely with CFR’s think tank staff on its content and features insights from CFR Fellows in a number of ways, including web briefs, op-eds, and various multimedia.
The Writer/Editor will work under the direction of the site’s Managing Editor and Deputy Managing Editors and will work closely with the CFR.org team, including design and product colleagues, as well as the think tank staff.
The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to)::

  • Serve as CFR.org’s main online writer/editor on developments related to Latin America as well as immigration, including coverage related to CFR’s Renewing America initiative. The Writer/Editor will be expected to research, report, write, and update backgrounders and write and edit In Briefs
  • Conduct research and writing on new interactive content
  • Assist in other site publishing work, including assisting producers with podcast and video research, making updates to homepage, editing, and conducting photo and multimedia research
  • Help to curate topic and landing pages

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years experience writing for a daily publication, preferably online
  • Experience writing on Latin America and immigration issues strongly preferred
  • Ability to write and process information under deadlines
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field with high academic achievement. Master’s Degree preferred
  • Strong researching, writing, reporting, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop and web publishing tools and the ability to learn how to use data visualization tools
  • Spanish language proficiency a plus
