Sports Betting Reporter – Ohio

Location: Remote

Better Collective US is a leading sports betting media group with brands across the world. As an affiliate business, we work to enable sports bettors to have an educated, responsible, and entertaining betting experience.

• Reporting to US Bets Division Managing Editors, candidate is primarily responsible for reporting on the Ohio market for a network of leading sports betting/iGaming industry publications, including Sports Handle (sportshandle.com) and US Bets (usbets.com). Candidate may also offer analysis and opinion articles where appropriate.
• Duties and subject matter will consist primarily of sports betting and online casino regulatory developments; covering state legislature and federal hearings; sports betting/gambling operator news, such as sports media deals, products, promotions, and market access agreements; summarizing sports betting and online casino revenue reports published by relevant authorities in each jurisdiction; and specific sporting event/game previews from time to time.

Content and media

• Pitch article ideas to editors weekly and cover breaking news that arises throughout the course of the week.
• Write several articles per week across our websites (quantity will vary based on article type), consisting of a mixture of scheduled pieces, newsers on breaking developments, and reported features.
• Working knowledge of SEO principles and best practices.
• File clean copy and adhere to editorial style guides.
• Respond to media requests (outside publications, TV, radio, external PR) and participate in interviews discussing knowledge in relevant subjects.
• Candidate may from time to time be assigned “evergreen” content assignments, which involves the drafting or updating of informational resource pages.

Networking and outreach

• Promote our content and brands to existing networks on social media, at industry conferences, elsewhere.
• Help establish and nurture media and industry relationships.
• Cultivate and communicate with industry sources.

Requisite and preferred experience

• At least three years working as a reporter for a daily print or digital publication.
• Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management system(s).
• Team player who is receptive to constructive criticism and values the success of his/her colleagues.
• Have a sense of humor but maintain professionalism at all times.
• Reference favorite ice cream flavor in any cover letter or initial outreach for this position.
• Knowledge about the fundamentals of gambling and sports wagering is a plus.
• Having current or former residence in Ohio is a plus.
