Full Job Description

  • We are looking for an experienced science communicator to plan a series of events that will excite the public and further our mission to make scientific knowledge accessible to all.
  • The part-time Science Content Producer will develop and help execute joint online events for the popular science publication, Knowable Magazine, and Annual Reviews, publisher of academic review articles in a broad swath of the sciences. Reporting to the Editor-In-Chief, Knowable Magazine, and in liaison with the Annual Reviews Editor-In-Chief, Annual Reviews journal editorial committees, and the Annual Reviews Marketing department, the Science Content Producer will work with the events leadership group to identify timely, compelling topics for events. They will also work with the marketing and audience engagement teams to build a global community of event participants.
  • The successful candidate will identify and approach leading scholars to participate as speakers; research topics including speakers’ contributions to the field and develop background material for the event moderator; in some cases, serve as moderator; help support live events; compose event descriptions and other promotional materials; manage workflow and deadlines for event promotion materials; help evaluate the success of events and create reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • This is a part-time position working 20+ hours per week. Hours will need to be flexible to accommodate the events program and to overlap with West Coast office hours. Remote applicants living in the following states will be considered: CA, CO, GA, HI, MA, NC, NY, OH, OR, PA, VA, WA, or WI.

Qualifications include:

  • College degree in science required; graduate degree in science or social science preferred
  • At least 5 years work experience communicating scientific research to the general public
  • Experience managing events or editorial workflows with many stakeholders
  • Experience working with and communicating with scholars
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including excellent command of the English language and the ability to communicate with diplomacy and tact and build rapport with scientists and colleagues
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • A professional demeanor and the ability to develop and maintain relationships and work well with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to identify and research relevant and compelling scientific topics for events and identify appropriate scholars
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to analyze and manipulate data
  • Commitment to producing the highest quality work
  • Ability to be productive, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while working remotely
  • Enthusiasm for the public communication of science
  • An understanding and enthusiasm for Annual Reviews’ and Knowable’s mission and a love of learning

  • The starting salary range for Colorado candidates only in this role will be $32.80/hour to $37.00/hour. Actual compensation will be determined by several factors including but not limited to: level and breadth of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and specific home office location.
