Finvi (formerly Ontario Systems) is looking to fill a new position Senior Technical Writer on our Product Management Team.

The Senior Technical Writer assists in the identification, creation, and project management of product content and its information management strategy for Product Management and its related processes. The Writer develops knowledge and expertise in multiple areas relating to product-related content and applies project management methods to the implementation of content creation and content management tools. The Writer may provide deliverables and services including product documentation and role-based feedback on product features to enable client independence and optimal use of our products.

Location This position will be remote. Candidates may work where they live anywhere in the United States.

What You’ll Do

  • Identify product content gaps to develop, manage, and/or edit content for client-facing, post-sales product technical materials such as referential deliverables (i.e., help, quick references, release notes), internal-only knowledge transfer lessons, and other product educational, and/or customer support content
  • Create or maintain online and printed product documentation within project scope
  • Research and analyze subject matter, analyze the target audience, and plan content and organization of the final product
  • Interview subject matter experts, experiment with the product, and read requirements and use cases to research product functionality
  • Develop a strong understanding of document structure, the subject matter, formal grammar rules, and departmental and industry procedural and stylistic standards
  • Communicate technical information in basic, understandable language
  • Plan and create additional features for product education documentation as required (for example, videos, flow charts, and graphics)
  • Create and follow editing guidelines (for example, self-editing, peer editing, subject matter expert approval, and technical editing)
  • Publish documents to multiple delivery channels
  • Revise and update current and subsequent versions of documentation
  • Work collaboratively with functional roles that focus on product content creation (for example instructional designers) to improve content creation processes
  • Edit product-related documentation as needed
  • Assess, create, and problem-solve the scope and delivery of product content to improve the accessibility of a company’s client-facing, post-sales product technical materials
  • Use product, technical insight, and project management skills to define, create, and manage a sustainable content strategy that enables the effective implementation and use of company products by clients
  • Work with various roles and subject matter experts throughout the company to identify current client-facing, post-sales product technical materials, transmission methods, delivery models, and content delivery channels that align with company strategies
  • Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to determine repositories, searchability options, and accessibility that meets business process needs
  • Collaborate with other functional roles in the company on content management needs and establish strategies that support these needs
  • Develop strategies for improving quality, delivery, timeliness, and effectiveness of client-facing, post-sales product technical materials; work with stakeholders to implement improvements
  • Plan and create additional features for product education documentation as required (for example, videos, flow charts, and graphics)
  • Measure, report, and respond/adjust to content consumption by clients noting the media most often accessed and gaining feedback regarding the helpfulness of posted material
  • Collaborate with product management to create or maintain policies and procedures for the company that focuses on the management of client-facing, post-sales product technical and educational materials
  • Contribute recommendations and provide input to the records and maintenance of appropriate controlled documents
  • Assist in the education of stakeholders on the processes, as appropriate
  • Create or maintain online and printed product documentation within project scope.
  • Research and analyze subject matter, analyze the target audience, and plan content and organization of the final product
  • Interview subject matter experts, experiment with the product, and read requirements and use cases to research product functionality
  • Develop a strong understanding of document structure, the subject matter, formal grammar rules, and departmental and industry procedural and stylistic standards
  • Communicate technical information in basic, understandable language, striving for a reading level no greater than 8th grade
  • Plan and create additional features for user documentation as required (for example, visual instructions, flow charts, and graphics)
  • Follow the editing guidelines: self-editing, peer editing, subject matter expert approval, and technical editing
  • Publish documents to multiple delivery channels
  • Revise and update current and subsequent versions of documentation
  • Work collaboratively with team members to improve the content development discipline
  • Edit documentation as assigned
  • Develop and demonstrate leadership
  • Drive for solutions and results by collaborating, persisting, producing, and meeting project timelines
  • Lead internal projects
  • Demonstrate strong ownership
  • Continually develop skills by volunteering for additional projects, reading industry publications, attending free webinars etc.
  • Other duties may be assigned. The importance of each duty and/or responsibility may change daily dependent upon related circumstances.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Management, Project Management, Information Science, Public Relations, English, Journalism, Communications, related specialized training, or proven experience
  • 4 to 6 Years writing in technical environment/software industry.
  • Familiarity with content and project management processes and methodologies
  • Ability to think strategically about corporate content management strategies and scope
  • Project management and/or technical writing background
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Strong analytical and time management skills
  • Professional communication skills
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience using Mapcap Flare is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects to achieve deadlines
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of graphic design and an appreciation of the interplay between textual and visual elements
  • A strong understanding of Web trends and technologies
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills to resolve issues in a deadline-driven work environment
