Full Job Description

These nonpartisan positions perform public policy research and analysis for the Montana Legislature. Analysts are generalists but also develop expertise in an assigned area. Session duties include drafting legislation, providing research and guidance, working with committee members, lobbyists, and the public, and being well-versed in legislative process and rules. Between sessions, analysts are project managers for interim committees that undertake policy studies, conduct agency oversight, review administrative rules, and prepare reccomendations for legislation. Analysts work closely with committee leadership, an attorney, a secretary and administrative staff. Public speaking and a willingness to creatively present information is required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant work experience or Master’s degree and two years of relevant work experience. Relevant work experience or interests may include criminal justice, political science, journalism, natural resource managment, teaching, or data analysis and graphic design.
