Newton News is seeking an enthusiastic community journalist to join its award-winning news staff!
We are looking for a versatile creative writer who is also interested in the social media aspects of journalism including Facebook and Twitter.
This reporter will split time between the Newton News and our two weekly newspapers, the Jasper County Tribune and PCM Explorer.
The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys covering public safety, various boards, community groups, and events, along with general assignments. Our focus is local news, local people, and local events.

About This Opportunity

This position is ideal for an entry-level reporter passionate about community journalism and covering a growing market not far from the Des Moines metro area. The ideal candidate will be disciplined with meeting short- and long-term deadlines, proficient in AP Style, and have the ability to shoot photos and videos. Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is a plus. The position requires occasional night and weekend assignments.
The preferred candidate will have a bachelors degree in journalism or a related field and at least one year of deadline-driven reporting experience in a daily newsroom. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license, dependable transportation, and proof of insurance.
