Children and Screens: Institute of Digital Media and Child Development is seeking a Marketing and Communications Specialist with nonprofit experience who has demonstrated excellence in public-facing communications, written materials, and program marketing. Reporting to the Founder and/or Executive Director, the Marketing and Communications Director will oversee a wide variety of written and visual content, public presentations, and all internal and external communications.

Responsibilities

Marketing

  • Plan and execute marketing of Institute programs including webinars, workshops, research retreats, international congresses, annual galas, publications, policy efforts, and more
  • Create content for social media platforms, website, direct mail, podcasts, videos, blogs, op-eds, and other projects
  • Actively promote the Institute, its mission, programs, and events to improve engagement with a variety of stakeholders

Social Media

  • Manage all of the Institute’s social media accounts and implement strategies to grow the organization’s social media presence, following, and overall traffic
  • Work with the Graphic Designer on the creation of all social media posts
  • Manage social media interns to help execute social media and optimize SEO data
  • Report on marketing activities and their results, maintaining visibility for President

Website

  • Work with Graphic Designer on the maintenance and expansion of the Institute’s website
  • Contribute to website redesign with Graphic Designer, Website Developer, and interns
  • Manage website interns in website development and the posting of new content

Media Relations

  • Work with agency to organize and promote press events, including our upcoming congress, research retreats, and webinars and oversee tracking of news coverage
  • Work with President and/or Executive Director and public relations agency to develop content for press releases, press advisories, statements, op-eds, and letters to the media, and prepare staff for media interviews

Interns

Manage university- and graduate-level interns to help execute strategic communications and marketing plan
Delegate tasks using project management software and supervise intern team to ensure that all projects are completed in a timely fashion

Requirements

  • Superb writing, voicing and editing
  • Fluent in WordPress and Powerpoint
  • Well-versed in the latest trends in multi-platform, cross-channel communication
  • Experience managing a website and social media content, newsletters, and other digital communications strategies
  • Interest in and the talent to manage a team of student interns
  • Public speaking including presentation design and management (from slide decks to panel moderation)
  • Hands-on graphic design (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and editing experience for a variety of visual assets
  • Degree in Science Writing/Science Journalism, Communications, or PR
