THE ROLE

A Multimedia Journalist-Traffic Reporter at News 9 helps drive the “Ideal Team Player” culture.

Job Summary: Present traffic information from the studio during the morning shows which includes reporting on wrecks, drive times, construction zones and delays. Gather, shoot, write, edit, and perform on-air presentation of news, entertainment, community, weather, and sports stories. Work mostly independently and work occasionally with a photojournalist. Write news copy and travel to news scene to cover stories as needed. Maintain awareness of current events. Use social media as part of daily story telling. Communicate with assignment desk throughout the day. Adhere to newsroom policies and procedures for video, scripts, and deadlines. Operate all editing and recording equipment. Operate live equipment. Display high journalistic standards.

Other Job Duties: Maintain knowledge of metro interstates, highways, and streets. Maintain knowledge of station traffic computer. Be familiar with presenting information on a chroma key or in front of additional monitors. Assure accuracy and clarity of information. Maintain professional/personal appearance, react quickly and appropriately on camera. Maintain proper voice and diction. Record sound and pictures on video for broadcasts, displaying awareness of the elements of good photojournalism. Employ keen lighting skills. Post to social media accounts multiple times per day. Send pictures and/or text updates on stories to digital producers at least twice a day.

Qualifications: Formal education equivalent of BS degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field. Two years of progressively responsible experience in a television newsroom as an on-air reporter or multimedia journalist preferred. Link of work and writing samples required.

This is a Full-Time position. Must be flexible to schedule changes due to holidays, vacations, and breaking news.
