Job Description:

Assist the Director of Athletic Communications in the day-to-day operations and all public relations, communications and media efforts for Brown’s 34 varsity programs. This position is responsible for providing communications-related services for assigned teams, student-athletes, coaches and staff, and will also work alongside the marketing and multimedia teams. The successful candidate must be highly organized and driven with exceptional multi-tasking and communication skills. The candidate must have strong knowledge of social media platforms as well as outstanding writing and public relations skills. Produce various communication materials (written, social media, multimedia, etc.) and maintain frequent communication with coaches, student-athletes, media, alumni, parents and donors. Supervise, hire and train event (professional and student) staff.

All department employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League and ECAC rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the department are to be reported to the appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Athletic Department).

Job Qualifications
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or other related disciplines or a combination of education and related experience
  • 2-3 years experience in communications/marketing/journalism in collegiate athletics or professional sports, preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign/Photoshop), Statistical Software (StatCrew, Genius Sports and NCAA Live Stats), Website content management systems (preferably SIDEARM), a basic knowledge of various social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook), and familiarity with both MAC and PC platforms.

  • General knowledge of NCAA, Ivy League and ECAC rules and regulation.
  • Strong understanding of collegiate athletics with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication & computer skills, necessary.
  • Strong editing skills
  • In-depth knowledge of a wide range of sports and their technical aspects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple projects at once, while meeting established deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic, passion for the profession and commitment to student-athletes
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Strategic, innovative and creative thinker, and ability to work independently.
  • The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background and DMV check and education verification satisfactory to Brown University prior to commencing employment.
