This is an on-site role that requires the employee to work at our Seattle site.
In order to work on Company premises, or with clients/members of the public at other locations, Bonneville employees must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or evidence of a negative COVID-19 test within the previous seven days.

POSITION PURPOSE:

KIRO Traffic Reporters are expected to be well-sourced, well-informed deliverers of original content and breaking news both on-air and online focused on the Puget Sound audience we serve. Our Traffic Reporters anchor, write, deliver and analyze daily traffic reports and analyze traffic trends to help listeners get to their destination on time, informed and safe.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Anchor, write and deliver all (up to 24) traffic reports during drive time
  • Possess solid news judgment
  • Cultivate and maintain connections and sources
  • Create a lasting brand and digital footprint for traffic on all digital properties/devices
  • Be able to deliver timely, accurate, reliable data and integrate it into the show/digital with credibility, urgency, and personality
  • Effectively use social media to present stories
  • Contribute stories to MyNorthwest.com in a timely manner
  • Write quickly, clearly, and accurately for both newscasts, news/talk shows, and web
  • Concise, conversational, and accurate on-air presentation in newscasts and on shows
  • Continually demonstrate and research a sophisticated understanding of Seattle-metro roadways, geography and landmarks and transit agencies and managers
  • Create objective news content that will be consumed by a broad and diverse audience on the radio and online
  • Enterprise stories, contribute feature content and/or breaking news reports as necessary
  • Be ready to research and report on tips or story requests from different shows
  • Be willing to work a flexible schedule to allow for live appearances on different shows breaking news, or special newscasts, including weekends and holidays under deadlines
  • Write and broadcast material in a grammatically and stylistically excellent manner- even under extreme deadlines
  • Able to effectively manage stress and multi-task
  • Develop topical areas of expertise
  • Effectively communicates story assignments and progress with manager(s), newsroom peers, and news/talk show producers/hosts

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least 2 years of major market broadcast experience
  • Professional sound and articulate and clear voice
  • Understanding of Seattle-metro roadways, geography, and landmarks
  • High degree of familiarity with social media platforms
  • Ability to find, develop, enterprise news stories and deliver compelling news topics
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills
  • Able to work with social media tools
  • Possess solid news judgment
  • Ability to work in a fast and concise manner under pressure with demonstrated ability to present live and ad-lib unscripted news reports with continuity, meaning, and clarity
  • Able to respond to breaking news aggressively
  • Understanding of best reporting practices including knowledge of ethical standards, plus the proven ability to cultivate sources and stories

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of regional issues
  • Video production and on-camera skills
  • Proven social media savvy
  • Master of both formal and conversational broadcast tone
  • Previous on-air experience
