News Publishing Company, located in Tell City, Indiana, is seeking a sports editor for the Perry County News, a twice weekly, 3,400 circulation newspaper. Candidates must be dedicated to producing a quality sports section with balanced and in-depth coverage and oversee coverage and schedules of one other sports writer. The sports editor will also oversee coverage of our outdoors sports, including hunting, fishing and use of vast Hoosier National Forest located in Perry County. Qualifications:

• Degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of AP style and libel law
• Good photography skills and knowledge of Photoshop
• Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, to design the sports section on a weekly basis
• Have experience scheduling stringers
• Experience and drive to use social media
• Possess flair to drive new ideas for local sports coverage
• Ability to work independently with superior results
• Be available for coverage of night and weekend games
• Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Essential Functions:

• Write crisp, accurate and compelling stories, headlines and photo captions
• Write a mixture of game stories and feature stories for the sports pages
• Meet established deadlines of the newspaper
• Develop relationships with area coaches to facilitate the flow of information to the newspaper
• Shoot clear and compelling photos
• Design the sports section using InDesign
• Write, oversee and design outdoor pages using InDesign
• Design and lay out weekly sports pages and other pages as needed
• Load stories and photos onto the website
• Serve as a backup for other members of the news team
