Full Job Description

KERO, the Scripps ABC station in Bakersfield, CA is hiring a Sports Anchor/Multimedia Journalist. As a Weekend Sports Anchor you’ll be responsible for researching, writing, capturing visual content and editing stories for multiple platforms.

As a Sports Anchor/MMJ at KERO you will cover everything sports for our station in Bakersfield and adjacent Kern County cities; totaling, a 1,000,000 population base. In addition you may also cover significant professional sports events in Southern CA. While doing so, you will be responsible for leading sports coverage by researching, writing, capturing visual content and editing stores for multiple platforms.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Gathers and verifies factual information for stories through interviews, observation and research.
  • Generates creative story ideas daily based on the station’s brand and strategic plan.
  • Writes, edits and organizes stories for live reports, taped interviews or online.
  • Works cooperatively with photographer on assignment.
  • Edits video and posts stories on multimedia platforms.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2+ years anchor/reporting experience preferred

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Computer literate, including newsroom computer systems
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience
  • Edit video on various editing systems
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
  • Proficient at posting content to various platforms
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
