The Post-Tribune seeks an experienced editor to guide news coverage of Northwest Indiana, which includes Lake and Porter counties. This editor must have sharp instincts for ideas that resonate with readers and the ability to develop enterprise stories that hold public officials accountable. Outstanding news judgment is key. This editor makes tough calls on how to allocate resources to best serve demanding customers in a competitive market that includes cities such as Gary, Hammond and Merrillville.

The senior content editor is responsible for assigning, editing and enhancing audience-focused content for multimedia presentation (internet, print, mobile). This includes working directly with reporters, freelancers and columnists; editing text and writing compelling headlines, editing photos, and helping to keep the digital channels updated in a timely manner.

They should have a real-time mindset, attacking the news throughout the day, coming up with a continuous stream of fresh angles and new ideas.

The senior content editor will be expected to use metrics/analytics to showcase the best-performing content and to inform future coverage choices. Senior content editors work on breaking news, local event previews, enterprise projects and more.

This editor also should feel comfortable programming web pages based on audience data and the mission; managing content from outside sources such as wire services; writing quick briefs, when necessary; and publishing on other platforms such as social media.

This editor must possess initiative, creativity, good news judgment, attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. Senior content editors also must be able to multitask and perform well under constant deadlines with only moderate supervision.

Senior content editors should be able to nurture reporters and less experienced editors, including those outside their topic area. They should have or develop some combination of a strong command of the English language, understanding of digital trends in SEO, social media and audience metrics, and editing skills that conform to accepted journalistic techniques and the style of the newsroom.
