Who We Are…

ALM is a business-to-business information and intelligence media company that delivers premium content to professionals in the legal, financial services, benefits, consulting, property and casualty insurance, and real estate industries.

About The Team:

We are a creative, collaborative and high-energy team spread across several locations. We meet daily, but there is also a climate of independence, with real opportunity to own key beat initiatives and drive them forward. Our focus is on providing best-in-class coverage, anticipating our advisor-reader needs, and developing content that will bring them back more often.

About The Role:

This role is pivotal to the success of the ThinkAdvisor brand, with its focus on the portfolio channel and the asset management industry, and should prioritize how market and economic developments affect financial advisors and their clients. It requires initiative and a sense of urgency in developing fast-breaking, significant market and industry news, as well as daily collaboration across a close-knit team. Quick analysis, breaking news, “how to” stories, prediction pieces and other high-value coverage are the writing focus, with an aim to publish the best advisor-focused portfolio coverage in the industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with editors to determine priorities for daily news coverage and enterprise reporting for both digital and print publication, with a focus on firms, industry VIPs, advisor-related news and portfolio product trends on both Wall Street and Main Street.
  • Follow news developments at major firms while tracking their developments via inside/VIP sources and on social media in order to consistently produce breaking news, which takes priority over other coverage.
  • Along with breaking news, produce a mix of content – including quick analysis, Q&As, how-to pieces, profiles and other formats.
  • Help test and develop new content formats as needed.
  • Build and deploy weekly newsletter(s) for the portfolio beat; optimize story lineup through news judgment, reader engagement data and feedback from editors.
  • Leverage analytics tools, including Chartbeat and Adobe Omniture, to understand what our audience is reading and inform assignment decisions.

Qualifications:

  • You are competitive, creative and curious, and you search for unique stories
  • You write clearly and authoritatively on deadline
  • You are passionate about the financial markets, financial advisors and investors
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative news environment

  • You take initiative and prepare for things to happen; you think about what’s next
  • You enjoy establishing and nurturing relationships with sources
  • You are comfortable adapting to a quickly changing media environment, and enjoy testing new ideas
  • Good communication and time management skills are essential
  • Must have a degree in journalism, communications, English, economics, business or a similar background
  • Some news writing experience is preferred, including internships
  • Business and/or markets reporting experience is a plus
