Shaw Media, the number one provider of local news in Jasper County, Iowa, is looking for a self-driven news reporter to join its award-winning news staff.

Our company publishes the Newton News, PCM Explorer the Jasper County Tribune, and several niche magazines in the region. We focus on having the best and the most coverage of important local stories. We concentrate on keeping subscribers engaged by updating our website promptly with breaking news.

About This Opportunity

We have a community news reporter opening in Newton and are looking to find a reporter who can develop local sources and cover a range of local news stories from business to politics to breaking news.

This is a role that requires turning around stories quickly and accurately. Our reporters are expected to generate their own story ideas along with completing field assignments from editors.

The ideal applicant will be someone with excellent writing skills who can show our readers why news is important to their lives. The ability to shoot photographs when necessary is needed, as is an understanding of the importance of social media in serving our digital audience.

This is an excellent opportunity for a reporter wanting to cover a growing market not far from the Des Moines metro area and is passionate about community journalism.

The preferred candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and proof of insurance.
