About the job

Woodward Radio Group, a division of employee-owned Woodward Communications, Inc. is accepting applications for a full-time (40 hours per week) News Reporter. Woodward Radio Group is a recognized industry leader, having won multiple local, regional and national awards for its programming. We operate six stations in the Oshkosh, Appleton, and Green Bay, Wisconsin markets.

Overall Responsibilities

  • Cover news stories as assigned by the Brand Manager.
  • Anchor scheduled newscasts.
  • Post stories and newscasts to WHBY website.
  • Post stories on social media with pictures and/or video.
  • Write and re-write stories from AP wire, press releases and other sources.
  • Produce special programs, such as features.
  • Actively participate in the GGOB for the Broadcast Division for the success of the broadcast division.

Specific Responsibilities

  • In-station production of news gathered through the telephone, TV, Internet.
  • Do live reports of breaking news stories on all platforms.
  • Perform a variety of weekly social media posts.
  • Add frequent content to the station website by writing articles and/or creating audio/ video content.
  • Ability to write website articles and make social media posts as assigned by Brand Manager and Digital Content Coordinator.
  • Cover various events for news purposes.
  • Come up with story ideas.
  • Anchor weekend newscasts as assigned.

Must have good work habits and a positive attitude. Maintain appropriate dress and grooming standards. Be fair and objective in reporting news.

Skills

Good verbal and written skills and the ability to use broadcast equipment. The ability to write concise facts of an event or situation and report them accurately. The ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure. Use of computers for writing stories and editing audio. Social media and digital experience is also a plus.

Knowledge

College degree in journalism and/or communications or equivalent experience. One year of commercial broadcast news experience is a plus.
