Job Description:

  • The Dallas Morning News currently has an opening for a Multiplatform Editor – Sports. The multiplatform editor prepares stories for publication on multiple platforms, demonstrating an understanding of our digital and print audiences and maximizing reader engagement. This editor serves the reader by editing stories and graphics for clarity and accuracy, writing headlines that capture interest without being clickbait, and assessing and improving a story’s presentation online and in print.
  • Aggregation of content across Web, conducting news searches to find news, tidbits, editing, writing and display.
  • Transcription of radio and television interviews.
  • Update all digital platforms. That includes editing/writing headlines, blogs, stories, photos, etc. Also includes aggregating content from other news outlets that expands – and improves – produced content.
  • Enhance social media efforts. Grow our reach on Facebook, Twitter and others.
  • Strong social media interaction.
  • Edits staff copy for clarity, accuracy, structure and taste and can spot potential libel
  • Writes digital and print headlines that engage readers
  • Enhances a story’s online presentation by adding or moving photos, adding links and/or embedding video
  • Writes photo captions that add value to digital or print presentation
  • Edits graphics for accuracy and clarity
  • Uses information from analytics tools to improve story performance online
  • Completes work by deadline
  • Adapts quickly to changing technologies and workflows
  • Juggles multiple assignments
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with colleagues

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field; will consider additional experience in lieu of education.
Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in a newsroom.
Proficiency in publishing programs (Serif and NewsGate) and communication tools (Gmail, Gchat, Slack).
