POLITICO is seeking a Managing Editor to oversee our Washington and Politics desk, a powerhouse team covering Congress, the White House, national security, politics and campaigns, including our Playbook franchise. The ideal candidate will be an experienced manager who can guide and build teams of talented editors and competitive reporters toward distinct, indispensable coverage and maximum impact. We’re looking for someone brimming with ideas about how to move the needle and drive the conversation on some of the coverage areas most central to what POLITICO does, and who has the proven ability to execute on those ideas.

What You’ll Do

• Oversee editors who run POLITICO’s politics, White House, Congress, national security & world, and Playbook teams.
• Work with editors and reporters to set coverage priorities and ensure POLITICO stays competitive and stands out.
• Support POLITICO’s efforts to recruit and retain top and diverse talent.
• Conceive and execute on new editorial initiatives, in concert with other editors and colleagues from other departments.

What You’ll Need

• Deep experience in Washington and political journalism.
• A track record of guiding teams to excellence.
• Experience working collaboratively and creatively with a motivated team of high-metabolism reporters.
• Strong management skills.
• An openness to new forms of telling stories, in particular using data, audio and video.
