About The Position

The Fresh Market currently has an opening for a Financial Reporting Manager in our Store Support Center (099). The primary responsibilities of the Financial Reporting Manager is to assist in the development of the Company’s external reporting documents (e.g. quarterly and annual reports, press releases, etc.), assist with technical accounting research and documentation, support the month-end closing process, perform other projects such as gathering data for internal and external financial reporting, assist with the internal control assessment and documentation as it relates to financial reporting, develop accounting templates for new procedures, and analyze data for reasonableness.

This position will have exposure to multiple areas within the Company and learn about what makes The Fresh Market so special.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Financial Reporting and Accounting Services and will have exposure to the Chief Accounting Officer.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in the development of the Company’s external reporting documents (e.g. quarterly and annual reports, press releases, etc.), including completion of quarterly GAAP checklists and quarterly memos and coordinating with the Company’s external auditors.
  • Performs technical account research as needed, including the development of technical accounting memos documenting the Company’s positions in collaboration with the Accounting management team.
  • Assist with the documentation and assessment of the Company’s disclosure process and controls
  • Support the month-end closing process as needed, including preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Interact and partner with all levels within the Company during the completion of assigned projects.
  • Participate in accounting system changes/updates and other process improvement efforts to ensure adequate internal controls are included and financial reporting matters are considered.
  • Play a key role in ensuring SEC reporting requirements are met by reviewing new accounting standards and rules as they are issued and updating financial policies and procedures as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or a related degree, or equivalent education and work experience required
  • 3+ years of Financial Reporting or related experience (experience with EDGAR and XBRL preferred)
  • CPA license or CPA eligible
  • Advanced PC skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Public accounting experience is preferred
  • Working knowledge of the following: US GAAP Accounting, SEC reporting requirements, new accounting standards, and internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to absorb and retain information quickly.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership and execute tasks.

Special Requirements

  • Minimal travel is expected (0 – 10 %).
  • Working knowledge of the following: US GAAP Accounting, SEC reporting requirements, new accounting standards, and internal controls over financial reporting.
