Primary Purpose

This position is accountable for ensuring accurate accounting and reporting per U.S. GAAP, and analysis of supplier allowances. The position will also interact extensively with the Merchandising team and other Finance teams, and ensure that proper controls are established surrounding the accounting functions.

Major Responsibilities

  • Perform all accounting functions relating to supplier allowances for assigned programs and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, accounting policies and procedures, and SOX controls.
  • Determine sources of data and verify integrity and appropriateness of data relative to the program and contract.
  • Ensure allowance programs are sufficiently documented and understood.
  • Develop reports, perform ad hoc analysis, and make recommendations regarding potential or future allowance programs. Maintain databases for new and/or expanded allowance programs.
  • Prepare monthly period-end accruals. Reconcile and complete period close documentation.
  • Support Merchandise and Category Management planning, budgeting and forecasting with knowledge of allowance programs, recommendations, and anticipated performance and accounting.
  • Reconcile supplier allowance-related issues by conducting research, locating back-up documentation, and clarifying information using various systems, databases, and reports.
  • Analyze allowance processes and procedures to ensure best practices are used. Recommend enhancements to the allowance process. Test and implement improvements in the administration and performance of these programs.

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Previous accounting experience in the area of business accounting is preferable
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting; thorough knowledge of accounting principles, theories, and practical applications including U.S. GAAP
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to review processes and identify areas for opportunities, improvements, efficiencies and control improvements
  • Ability to work as team member / lead a cross-function team
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, proactive mindset
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office suite of products

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting
  • 1-3 years in accounting or related experience is preferable
