Full Job Description

Chipton-Ross is seeking a Copywriter for an opening in Pittsburgh, PA.

SUMMARY:

An unusually challenging copywriting role that calls for extraordinary attention to detail and unerring precision in the craft of writing, solid creative and marketing sensibilities, and strong interpersonal skills. Translates key marketing objectives into exactingly accurate, effectively compelling copy for all written tactics, including an extensive e-commerce website (fishersci.com), emails, brochures, social media, articles, video scripts, catalogs, and event marketing. Ensures that each business’s brand positioning follows corporate standards and is consistently articulated in all forms of written communication as modified for their intended channels. Ability to multitask effectively under pressure and balance speed with quality while meeting aggressive deadlines through the copy phases of research, concepting, writing, editing, and proofreading is critical.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Craft thoughtful, innovative marketing communications across multiple channels consistent with brand standards, adhering to best practices both in writing for multiple communication mediums and in interacting with internal partners. Develop copy that conforms to layout and other design parameters while maintaining the consistent voice and style of each respective brand. Write creatively for headlines and campaign concepts, yet technically about product details, in a manner that elevates the customer experience and drives sales. Brainstorm and develop creative concepts, both independently and collaboratively, that advance marketing strategies and integrated campaigns. Enlist the help of cross-functional teams to aggregate individual product features, benefits, and claims when writing technically oriented copy for collateral. Collaborate broadly with individual contributors from diverse teams to translate strategies outlined in creative briefs into engaging concepts and copy for a range of clients, all while embracing recognized best practices. Proofread and edit the work of fellow writers and other colleagues as assigned in regard to accuracy of content; grammatical accuracy; and adherence to approved style, usage, and brand standards. Work on multiple concurrent projects, ensuring that you complete deliverables on time while upholding the highest standards of quality and creativity. Continuously build your institutional knowledge of the company, its products, and the markets it serves; deepen your understanding of competitors’ positions and practices in the marketplace; and stay current with broader retail and copy style/editorial trends to help inform/differentiate our own marketing communications.

REQUIREMENTS:

Exceptional writing skills demonstrating excellent knowledge of grammar, keen attention to detail—including excellent spelling and proofreading skills—and strong story construction skills. Proven experience in writing both creative and technically oriented copy for on- and off-line marketing collateral and demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely for defined target audiences. Successful track record of combining business objectives, design recommendations, and technical constraints into a single, innovative, brand-right solution. Ability to understand complex, abstract science-based subjects and express them in a straightforward, consumer-friendly way. Demonstrated ability to communicate in one voice across multiple tactics. Substantial understanding of marketing and branding principles and working knowledge of graphic design and information architecture principles. Effective in-person communication skills, solid presentation skills, and ability to respond positively to critical feedback. Very strong initiative, problem-solving drive, and passion for collaboration combined with the poise and determination to multitask effectively under pressure while deftly balancing speed with quality. Successful prior experience writing for a robust e-commerce web site—ideally including writing for SEO and ADA compliance considerations and involvement in routing copy to/reviewing copy received from vendors responsible for foreign-language (French, German, Italian, and Spanish) translations—is very strongly desired.

EDUCATION:

Accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Science, Communications, English, Journalism, Advertising, or similar plus 4 to 7+ years’ related marketing writing experience that includes creative concepting, ideally for a retail company and/or agency, and demonstrable proficiency or comfort level working with material of a highly technical or scientific nature, ideally gained from experience in a scientific field or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
