The Casper Star-Tribune, Wyoming’s statewide newspaper and best daily for four years running, is looking for a versatile and motivated sports journalist with strong storytelling and breaking news skills to join our team.

Few newspapers of our size offer the growth opportunities you’ll find here.

Your primary focus will be Division I athletics at the University of Wyoming, namely football and basketball. In the off-season, you’ll also contribute to our coverage of rodeo – Casper hosts the week-long College National Finals Rodeo each June – and other sports, from preps to outdoor adventures like rock climbing.

We’re looking for a well-rounded reporter who is comfortable in all facets of covering a beat, from quick-turnaround game stories to lengthy features and long-term projects. We want someone with excellent time management and organizational skills, including the ability to deliver on deadline and manage multiple priorities. The ideal candidate will tell stories that go beyond the X’s and O’s, update our audience on the latest recruiting news and be comfortable using social media, making videos and
producing podcasts.

This beat has helped propel former employees into big-time gigs at ESPN, the Seattle Times and CBS Sports, to name a few.

We take pride in being our state’s top media voice. In January, we have named the best daily newspaper in Wyoming for the sixth time in the last
seven years, and we take pride in routinely breaking the state’s biggest stories. Our reporters regularly win awards at state, regional, and national
competitions. Our sports section has a long history of consistently winning APSE awards, having collected 31 section/writing/website honors since 2010.

Outside the newsroom, Wyoming offers endless outdoor opportunities. We’re at the base of a beautiful mountain range where you can hike in the summer and ski in the winter. Camping and world-class fishing are just a short drive out of town. Casper boasts the big-city offerings of restaurants, shopping, microbreweries, and the arts while still giving you plenty of room to breathe. And if you’re missing the big city itself, Denver is down the interstate.

The Casper Star-Tribune is a Lee Enterprises news organization. We offer an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, and paid time off. We value diversity in our newsroom and encourage candidates from underrepresented communities to apply. You can see our website at trib.com and learn more about our company at lee.net.
