Full Job Description

The Brian Lehrer Show is looking for self-starting interns to join our team while we continue to work remotely.

Interns at NYPR are given a robust internship program with hands-on responsibilities. The goal of our internship program is to provide our interns with substantive, meaningful work experience so that each intern concludes the internship period with demonstrable skills in his/her area of interest, plus knowledge of public radio, in general. The Brian Lehrer Show is WNYC’s Peabody Award-winning news/talk program, The show serves as a town square for New York and beyond, with newsmakers and agenda-setters, journalists and listeners conversing at length on the local, national and international news and cultural and social trends of the day.

What your internship will entail:

• Call-screening
• Checking in with guests
• Pitching ideas
• Providing research assistance and basic audio editing
• Website content maintenance
• Social media outreach
• Performing various menial tasks that are essential to the daily running of the office

Requirements:

• Some journalism and office experience is preferred, but not required.
• Applicants should be highly motivated self-starters who can work in an environment of live news radio.
• Applicants should be aware of news and political affairs in New York and beyond.
• Website production skills are a welcome addition; please note them in your cover letter.

• Describe two of your favorite BLS segments, and why you liked them. (Previous shows are archived on the website.)
• Describe a subject area or neighborhood that you think doesn’t get enough coverage on the show.
• Suggest two story ideas for the BLS, from this week’s news. (One short paragraph each) Feel free to suggest a guest or guests.
• What other shows do you listen to / websites do you visit regularly?

Eligibility:

Any student (undergraduate or graduate) or person who has graduated no more than 12 months prior to the start of the internship period to which he/she is applying. Because this is a paid internship, interns must be authorized to work in the United States and must be working from one of the following locations while working for NYPR: CA, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, MI, NH, NJ, NM, NY, PA, WI, Washington DC.

Interns are eligible to receive college credit.
